Therapy for Adoptive Parents

The journey that children and their parents go through in the process of adoption and foster care leaves an impact on the mind, heart, and body. We value sharing the impact of holistic counseling for these times.

Parents in this context receive quite a bit of education and support around how to help their children cognitively and emotionally, but much less around how to support themselves and their children physically.

This training will discuss how the body responds to trauma and provide you with practical skills tailored to the unique needs of adoptive families to help support nervous system regulation, which builds stronger connections, promotes neural development, and assists children and parents with emotional regulation skills.

Dr. Baker is an adoptive mom herself who started her career working with adoptive and foster families. She is the founder of Wayfare Counseling and has been the Clinical Director there for 12 years. She is Theraplay and TBRI trained and is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She has brought together the knowledge from the attachment literature with the wisdom of nervous system regulation to provide parents and adoption agency workers with this training. Please reach out if this training could be supportive to your community!
